Picking Pecks of Plump Peaches With Pops

Say that three times fast.  ; )

For years we have been saying we were going to go peach picking.  Every summer we would reach August and realize that, yet again, we had missed our opportunity.  After seeing this morning that the weather today was going to be a bit cooler than it has been and we didn't have too much going on, I decided today was the day.  We picked my dad up and headed west about 20 miles to the same orchard where we went apple picking last fall.

Peach picking is great for the little ones.  The trees are lower than apple trees and C could reach the branches with ease.

Naturally JP was disappointed because he wanted a reason to have to climb some trees.

M won't even have trouble reaching the apple trees later this year.  He's over 5'4".

JP was excited every time he found a "perfect" peach.

The guys shared a picking bag.

Even P got in on the action.

Unfortunately his action was picking the peaches out of the bag and tossing them back in, bruising some I'm sure.  He just loves being outdoors.

We haven't baked anything yet.  Today we just enjoyed eating fresh, juicy peaches.  We removed them from the bags and put them on the counter.  The weight of the ones on top seemed to be damaging the ones below as most of them were very ripe.  This is roughly 30 pounds of peaches.

We will definitely be baking something tomorrow.  I'll be back with details and recipes.

  1. Hi Stephanie, they look so delicious and fresh! How fun to bake with fresh fruit. I have no idea if we have any peach orchards any where near the Chicagoland area?

    1. Noreen, there is a great website called pickyourown.org where you could check for orchards/farms near you. It will tell you what is available in your area. It was great fun! : )
